Feeling hot, hot, hot !

Just a quick update - harvest has started as of today, under a beating sun and temps in the 90s. The three week advance we had due to the unusually warm spring have led us as predicted to one of the earliest harvest dates recorded in Champagne, despite the cool, wet spell we had  from mid July to mid August. Right now with this current heat wave, it feels more like we're harvesting in Provence... The grapes so far are holding up fairly well - just a few pockets of botrytis (i.e. rotting) here and there. But the heat and humidity aren't really what we need right now, so we're going to try to pick as fast as possible. Rendez-vous in a few months to see how this vintage turns out !

Petite mise à jour : les vendanges ont commencé aujourd'hui dans notre village - trois semaines d'avance par rapport à une récolte "normale". La presse en a parlé vendredi, avec un beau reportage sur nos voisins de Neuville Sur Seine. Le temps froid et humide de mi-Juillet au mi-août n'a pas beaucoup ralenti la maturation des raisins, et maintenant on doit se soucier de l'état sanitaire, car le botrytis gagne du terrain. Pour l'instant , ce n'est pas dramatique, mais il faut y aller ! Pas facile de vendanger avec ce temps caniculaire - on a l'impression d'être plutôt en provence, pas dans le vignoble le plus septentrional de France....
