Journée de M......! From bad to worse....

Après la canicule, le déluge ! Cela a commencé dans la nuit, avec un orage à tout cassé vers 4 heures, nous réveillant avec une ENORME éclat de tonnerre et la foudre qui a bien sûr fait sauter le disjoncteur. Thierry s'est levé pour aller le remettre en route car en ce moment on utilise la thermorégulation dans la cuverie afin de  maitriser la température pour la vinification. Les courageux vendangeurs sont dans les vignes, mais il y a des fortes averses intermittentes comme en ce moment, ou il tombe des CORDES! Impossible d'entrer dans les vignes avec l'enjambeur, donc on ramasse les caisses avec le chenillard, ce qui ralentie la cadence énormément. On annonce du meilleur temps pour ce weekend, mais entretemps, il faut bien faire avec. Je viens d'entendre mon beau père dire "les années en 1" sont toujours difficiles - on dirait que c'est bien vrai!

Working conditions in the vineyards have gone from bad to worse. After several days excessive heat, a terrrible thunder and lightning storm broke out last night and blew the electricity. Thierry had to get up at 4am to reset the circuit breaker because it's important that we maintain the temperature in the fermenting tanks with the thermoregulating system. Our courageous grape pickers arrived at 7:30am and have been subjected to intermittant downpours all morning. Because of the wet conditions, it's too dangerous to use the tractor in the vineyards to transport  the cases of grapes out of the vines, so we're using a manual crawler tractor, which slows things down considerably. The weather should improve for the weekend, but that's not much comfort for now!
