Just took a quick tour of the vineyards with Thierry, and learned a new word : "Millerandage" - that's what happens when the flowering is compromised by cool temperatures, creating uneven maturing of the grapes. We're seeing a bit of this in some of our vines : bunches with both small and large grapes, as in the picture below. Interesting that in the French version of Wikipedia it is said that this can be a sign of quality, whereas in the English version(consisting of three lines), it is said to cause lower quality.....
Nous avons fait un petit tour rapide des vignes et j'ai encore appris un nouveau mot de vocabulaire: "millerandage" Thierry m'a montré quelques exemples causés par les mauvaises conditions météorologiques au moment de la fleur. Heureusement que toutes les grappes ne ressemblent pas à ces photos:
Also saw some signs of ripening "Véraison" (the beginning of the ripening stage) starting, as in the picture below :

Lastly, took a couple of interesting picture of some "vrilles" (tendrils) - though we train our vines between wires, they still tend to "do their own thing"...
Et pour finir, j'ai pris quelque photos de vrilles que j'ai trouvé intéressantes. On oublie souvent que malgré tous nos efforts pour maitriser la vigne, elle n'en fait qu'à sa tête!
